Alma Fattori

"My ultimate goal was to paint with watercolour..."

Biography:

My interest in art began at an early age by drawing cartoon characters. As a teen I made my first attempt at painting by enrolling with Oscar Schlinger, an art teacher who allowed us to use only one colour, insisting that unless we understood and could paint shadows well, there was no need to confuse us with many colours.

Later, I took courses in decoupage. Folk art and decorative painting classes followed. I spent five years with several well-known teachers at Cedar Ridge Art Centre. Two years at the Japanese Cultural Centre is where I studied the art of Brush Painting. A further course followed with a private teacher.

My ultimate goal was to paint with watercolour and, to this end, I have taken workshops with many artists, including Nikita Marner, Ruddi Stussi, Donna Cameron, Margaret Roseman, Barry Lovegrove and Charles Spratt. An Interest in acrylics led me to a weekend seminar with Don Cavin.

I am currently, and have been for several years, enrolled in painting classes with Mary Therese Carmichael. We, her students, are known as "The Studio Group". We have had ten non-juried shows in which I have exhibited and sold.

I gave private lessons for fifteen years.

I am a past member of the Toronto Watercolour Society and have exhibited in two of their juried shows.

Currently, I am a member of NYVA. I have exhibited in two shows in which I have sold and have been awarded two Honourable Mentions.

I credit my late husband Gerry, an artist and designer, who patiently encouraged my artist efforts and helped me to see as I never had before. My paintings have been displayed in many business offices, M.D.S., hospitals, Devonsleigh Place and private home locally and abroad.
